Saw DG last night here in Nashville. He gave a great performance overall. He seemed a bit hesitant, shy at the beginning, opening with The Other Side and Dead in the Water (slow tunes may have made him mellow) but by the time he got to This Year’s Love he was relaxed, laughing, adorable and wrapping the crowd around his little finger. He performed a Nina Simone song Baltimore, with lines about how hot it is in the city, which were very appropriate because it was so hot and humid here. Poor David was drenched after the first number. Someone should have counseled him to roll up his sleeves, unbutton his shirt, change into a t-shirt, something—my friend and I were actually distracted by how sticky he became. Clune was unbuttoned, and even changed shirts during This Year’s Love, but no quickchange for DG.
My favorite part was how excited and pumped he was during the encore—played on the piano set higher up on a platform on the stage. He jumped on and off, encouraged the crowd to keep clapping, flashed us that awesome joyful elated smile, and seemed sorry to leave the stage. We would have stayed as long as he would play! Great performance, David.
