The History Of The Pink Flamingo Lounge

The Pink Flamingo Lounge started out as a bored afternoon in a college computer lab on January 7th 2000. I noticed there wasn't much on the net about this guy David Gray my friends Alan and Mark had leant me a CD of (Sell, Sell, Sell - they got it back about six months later!). There were a few sites with bits and pieces so I decided to create the definitive David Gray site with everything in the one place. I walked out of the computer lab almost 7 hours later with the first version of the page on geocities, announced on the old bulletin board at davidgray.com before the site became all snazzy and updated. The page was absolutely disgusting, pink text links and all!

As the months passed the site grew bigger, collecting chords and tablatures for the guitar section, pictures for the archive and the rest. It was then that the site began to recieve large amounts of hits and lots of e-mails from fans wanting to contribute stuff to the site. The page has always relied and will always rely on David's fans contributions. The site grew and grew and got to the stage where it started to recieve over 1,500 hits and 50 e-mails a week.

This year I started the final year of my Commerce degree. Projects and coursework started to build up and add a part time job to the equation and I just don't have the time to keep updating the site. I posted a message to the bulletin boards about finding a replacement to take over the site and that's where Chris comes in....

Eoin Grace Webmaster, January 2000 to October 2001

Yes, that's where i come in, i saw the message pleading for a replacement webmaster and replied, never thinking that it would happen. A few days later when it was out of my mind i received an email from Eoin saying that i would be taking over the site!

That was two weeks ago and thoughts have been running through my head ever since for new features, updates and fixes for the site. The first updated version of the site just went up a couple of days ago after a weeks work nearly every day, but it's been imense satisfaction getting all the positive feedback about the new look.

Rock On!
